Are you pregnant yet??!

No, I'm not, thanks for asking.

Sigh.

I really like my co-worker. She is really fun and zany and just overall a cool lady. She has a 10ish year old daughter. She is always asking me when we are having kids, and if I am pregnant yet.

I don't have the heart to tell her that it's not coming that easy to me. Mostly because every time she asks, it is in front of multiple people. I'm not embarrassed of my struggle, but I also don't want all kinds of random people knowing.

But it's just enough of a kick in the gut to ruin my mood and bring me down a few notches. So much for my Friday afternoon high.

I love this song. Iron and Wine with "The Sea and the Rhythm":

  1. Some ppl eh! i here ya we get asked all the time when we are going to have kids, and just recently DH started saying We are trying, its not just as easy as you think... i think it helps him to get a bit out to ppl like that when they say things

  2. Ask her if she's gone through menopause yet. It's just as personal to ask if you are pregnant. Some people. :/

  3. Yea, I mean I am sure you think about it enough, no one needs reminding.

I hope you have a great weekend and don't have to think about it!

  4. I love Iron and Wine, I walked down the aisle to one of their songs! People say silly things I think you should take her aside and tell her about your struggle. That way you avoid any further awkward situations (easier said then done!)

  5. That's so rude! Maybe you can ask her (in private) to please stop asking?

  6. I get this question quite a lot too from coworkers/acquaintances. If we are in a setting where I can explain to just him/her, "actually we're currently undergoing infertility treatments so I'm not sure when we'll be able to have children," that ends all present and futures questions. It's awkward but I'd rather have one awkward moment than feel bad everytime I'm asked...

  7. I've started replying with, we're thinking about trying soon. If you really like this lady I'd just pull her aside one day and tell her you an Buster are struggling, I find some people are just better off knowing so they don't ask stupid stuff and make you sad. Go pet Kelsey that will bring you back up those dropped notches!

  8. Ahh Kara, I'm so sorry. I completely understand though. You are not alone! Once you see Buster and Kelsey you'll get your Friday high back, it's FRIDAY!!!! Enjoy sweetie!

  9. Sometimes I just want to tell people who ask those questions to shut the hell up! (Please excuse my language!)
I too have a co-worker that is constantly on my case about when am I have kids. I haven't had the heart to tell her either that every time she asks it just crushes me a little more. I wish I had a good way for both of us to handle those situations. Sorry you had to deal with this on your Friday.

  10. It's such a strange question-and personal. Do people think that you're suddenly going to come out and say "oh yeah I'm 20 weeks, I forgot to tell you"!
The problem sometimes with actually telling people the truth, is that you then get endless questions about how your infertility treatments are going and 'have they worked yet?'
Sorry it's put a downer on your Friday-hope your weekend is much better!xo

  11. I wish I could 'like' comments like you can on Facebook - I'd 'like' Aub's comment! I'd pull her aside some time in private and let her know (in as little detail as you want) that no, you're not pregnant yet - not because you haven't been trying...and ask her to please stop asking you about it. It's rude of her to do that, especially in a work setting.

  12. Uggg! Sometimes I really wonder how people can be so clueless... Sorry lady, I know that one stings....

  13. I hate that. Any time I call in sick to work or make the slightest comment about not feeling well everyone asks "Are you pregnant?" It's becoming more difficult to play nice. I'm sure you found a classy way to handle it :)
