Of frozen pipes and Sunday spotting

It's cold. Really cold. The kind of cold that freezes the inside of your nostrils. When I woke up yesterday morning, it was 6 degrees outside.

I attempted to do my normal routine yesterday morning. Wake up, brush my teeth, contacts in, let Kelsey out. On the weekends, I then go put on a pot of coffee. When I went to fill up the pot, I noticed that no water was coming out of the faucet. AWESOME! Our kitchen sink pipes froze. Luckily, our bathroom pipes were still in working order. But...still.

It's just dreadfully inconvenient. So we rigged up the hair dryer so that we wouldn't have to stand there holding it, but that didn't do much. Then we borrowed a space heater from the in-laws and set it up and just let it run. All day. All night. Sometime in the wee hours of the morning, I hear the rush of water. YES! The space heater had worked its magic, and our pipes were unthawed. Crisis averted.

I am spotting a bit. AF will arrive in full force tonight or tomorrow morning, which is great. I will call the RE tomorrow and see about my CD3 appointment.

I am feeling more and more discouraged with my RE office. I just get the feeling that they aren't taking this whole thing as seriously as I am, and I desperately want them to. I don't want to waste time and money doing things that haven't worked in the past.

The most unfortunate thing about it is that there is no other RE in town. None. I don't live in a tiny town, but it's not huge either. I mean, we have about 70,000 people (when the students are in). You'd think we'd have more than one freaking fertility doctor. But no.

I will have to drive a minimum of 90 minutes (each way) to get to the closest reputable clinic. I'm willing to do it, too. But, as it's in a different state, I need to check and make sure my insurance will work the same and all that. And this is assuming that my RE office denies me the injectibles and tries to force some more Femara on me.

  1. ugh, I am so sorry to hear that your re is not taking you seriously. I know I am so grateful to live in NYC where there are several good re options. I wondering if you can see an out of town RE and possibly do the monitoring appts locally. I have heard of other people doing this.
It is really cold here too. Stay warm and inside!!!

Hopefully your RE will listen to you though and will be a bit more aggressive.

  4. :'( We're in the same boat today, friend. Just 1000 miles apart. Sorry about the water pipes and the lady pipes. Ugh, I wish I could say something to make it better. I love ya.

  5. I'm sorry you're feeling discouraged :( I know how that feels.. You should make a list of questions, concerns, comments etc. and MAKE your Dr. listen to you.. I just read an article on Yahoo about how to get your Dr.'s to listen.. Don't let hime leave until you feel you've got across what you wanted.. I'm so sorry :(

  6. We're in the deep freeze here as well - the wind chills were below zero this morning! Brrrrr. Good luck with your RE. I really hope they'll listen to you so you don't have to hike all the way here to see a new doc!

  7. I had the same problem when doing IUI's. I was told to call when I got a postive on my opk and did and the nurse told me it was Monday and they didn't have time that day....ummmm what. We are in a city of about 300,000 and only have 1 office. You need to do what feels right. It's your time and money. We left that office and drove 5 hrs to a new RE and we are sooo glad we did.

  9. Glad to hear your pipes are thawed! That would not be fun to deal with. Sorry you are not feeling awesome about your RE. My husband and I ended up switching from our RE that was a 3 minute drive to one that is an hour drive...it was definitely worth it. I hope your insurance will accept the out of state office if that is what your are hoping to do.

  11. I know where you are coming from with the RE. Ours is supposed to be one of "Metro Detroit's Best", yet when I first went to him he wanted me to start charting my temp. Uh. I've been doing this for a year...I just moved here, here are my records...but no. He wanted to start from scratch. Thanks for wasting my time buddy. Or rather, yes, we will start from scratch so YOU can squeeze more money out of us.
