February FET: it's a no go

My clinic finally called me at about 5:30 p.m. yesterday.

While "everything looks great", I guess it doesn't look great enough for a February FET. I was in the car when I took the call, so I couldn't write down any of the specifics (LH, estrogen, progesterone, etc), but I do remember the hcg number: 6.5.

So, there is still hcg in my system. I incorrectly assumed that because my period showed up that meant no more hcg.

I was (and still am) disappointed. I was ready to move ahead, to give myself something tangible to focus on.

But, deep down I know this is ok. More than ok, actually. Because right now I don't really have time to deal with an FET. March will be a much better month for me at my job, regarding work load. So, I know it's for the best in more ways than one.

So, let the countdown begin!
______________

Thank you for all of your responses yesterday, and your shared outrage at my RE. Many of you asked if there was anyone else somewhat close, and the answer, unfortunately, is no. The next closest RE's office is probably 45 minutes away, and I just can't pull that off with work. Luckily, I only have to deal with my RE very briefly each time, and only up until transfer. After that, I'll be in the capable hands of my clinic in NYC, and then my OBGYN.

  1. I'm sorry :( But I wasn't allowed to do anything fertility related for 3 whole cycles after my miscarriage, which I've been told is pretty standard, so I'm a bit surprised that your docs considered doing an FET this month if you HCG levels were back to 0. Supposedly, the rate of miscarriage is higher during those 3 cycles following your loss, so maybe this is a blessing in disguise to have to wait a bit longer?? Thinking of you...

    1. I've actually heard very contradictory things. I've heard that pregnancies within the first 6 months after a miscarriage result in FEWER miscarriages than pregnancies more than 6 months later and then I've also heard something similar to what Melissa just wrote, that pregnancy immediately following a miscarriage have higher rates of miscarriage. The general consensus with all of my Dr.'s was anything after the first period was fine and that there was no reason to wait. THAT BEING SAID, I'm glad you're putting things off until March if it works better for you timing and stress wise!

  3. So sorry you have to work with a crappy RE. At least you don't have to deal with him too much. I hated my first fertility doctor (not even an RE, but the only one in my city who does IUIs), so I asked for a referral to the closest RE - 2.5 hours away. Hopefully the long drive will be worth it in the end.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your March transfer!

  4. I've been following along with your journey as we share 'unexplained infertility' and it's nice to know that I'm not alone. I'm so sorry that your FET was cancelled for this month but I'd say that March sounds fantastic!

I'll be cheering you on next month, for sure!

  5. March FETs make December babies!! You can still be a mama this year :) I hope the wait is not too long and that your work keeps you super busy with time flying by!

  6. I'm really sorry you still have a positive HCG. It took a while for mine to go down, too, even beyond my first period.

Your doctor sounds like a tool. There's just no excuse.

  8. I'm sorry this month didn't work out, but March is a great month to get pregnant!!!!
Also, it may be better with your workload, I imagine an FET is still pretty time consuming (and obviously very mentally taxing)!

  9. I'm sorry for your delay. March = Spring. Spring = new beginnings. And yes, your RE sounds like a real piece of work. I'm glad that you can defer to the other clinic for the big stuff.

  13. I'm sorry this month is a no go but I'm keeping all fingers crossed for March. Let your body rest and I'm sure as you said with you work load you'll be distracted. March will be here before you know it.

  16. My clinic makes you wait for your period, skip that month, and then start the Lupron the following month...then transfer. Which is basically a 3 month wait...depending on how long it takes for your period to return. For example, I had a miscarriage in Dec, AF in January, my doc will see me sometime this month..but I probably won't start Lupron until March...then retrieval and transfer in April. That wait worked for me the last time I had a miscarriage (following FET resulted in my twins). I hope that a similar wait works for you...and me both :)

Pregnancy rates after a D & C go up, because it cleans up the works, so the sooner after a D & C (or lap, or similar procedure) the better for implantation rates. As far as miscarriages go...miscarriages are usually because of the embryo, not your uterus, so waiting 6 months won't help/hurt your chance of miscarriage.

  17. I'm sorry you have to wait. Ugh, waiting. Doesn't it seem like that's all you do when going through IF? Wait, wait and wait some more. Well, at least you can have a little break - maybe let loose a little and blow off some steam? I'm sure you could use it after all you've been through. At least February is a short month!

  20. If your RE only knew there were so many stories about him on the internet and so many women who think he's a doooouche!

Anywho, March is awesome! Fall is a wonderful time to waddle and Christmas would be so incredibly magical forever :)
